Please Note: Brick Math Decimals: Student Edition is a student workbook and should be used in conjunction with Brick Math Decimals: Teacher Edition.
The companion Student Workbook for Decimals Using LEGO® Bricks helps students learn about decimals, using LEGO® bricks to model the math. Students will learn: what a decimal is, adding and subtracting decimals, how to compare decimals to percent and fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals, and using money and time as real-life applications of decimals.
The Student Edition includes baseplate diagrams for students to work along with the teacher, drawing their models and explaining their thinking in writing. It also includes a student assessment for each chapter and a chart to track the student's progress.
The ability to understand and interpret decimals is an important life skill. But students often struggle with decimals in the same way that they struggle with fractions. Modeling decimals with LEGO® bricks helps students successfully visualize and prove the relationships between decimals and fractions, decimals and place value, and decimals and number operations.
In this book, the hands-on activities using LEGO® bricks help students learn:
• ordering decimals
• fraction equivalents of decimals
• money and time as real-life applications of decimals
• adding decimals
• subtracting decimals
• multiplying decimals
• dividing decimals
• linking decimals, fractions, and percentages
The book starts at the most basic concepts and focuses on a specific topic in each chapter. Most students learn about decimals between grades 4 - 6.
Using LEGO® bricks to model math provides a universal language. Children everywhere recognize this manipulative. It’s fun to learn when you’re using LEGO® bricks!
